Phoenix Marine was the general contractor for construction of a ferry platform and landing barge for NYCEDC’s NYC Ferry program. The platform was 250 ft long by 20 ft wide and was constructed with 24 in. diameter pipe piles with precast pile caps and deck planks with a CIP deck topping. Railing, gates, and lighting fixtures were also furnished. The 30 ft wide by 90 ft long ferry barge was secured in place with 36 in. diameter pipe piles drilled into bedrock, with 36 in. diameter monopiles with donut fenders drilled into place to support the berthing operations of the ferry vessels. Construction equipment extended approximately 700 ft into New York Harbor, adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry St. George Terminal. Coordination with SI Ferry and USCG personnel was critical to project success.
