Brooklyn Bridge Park, located at the former Brooklyn Piers site stretches 1.3 miles along the East River from north of the Manhattan Bridge to Atlantic Avenue. Phoenix Marine recently completed Phase I of this landmark project, which consisted of a major transformation of Pier 1 and the surrounding waterfront. The Work Included bulkhead construction and rehabilitation, riprap revetment and boat ramp construction, scour protection, drainage systems, earthwork, concrete foundations, grading, paving, and masonry. The bulkhead work included installation of a steel sheet pile bulkhead and deadman, tie back system, and concrete cap. Other work included selective demolition of the pile supported structure of Pier 1 platform, to allow for the construction of a salt marsh and recreational water access areas. Brooklyn Bridge Park is the most significant park development in Brooklyn since Prospect Park was built 135 years ago.
